Roots School System Emaar Campus - Save Earth on the Soccer Field

Roots School System Emaar Campus arranged a Soccer Match with the theme of 'Save Earth on the Soccer Field' for their first DeforestACTION initiative! The students raised awareness of deforestation through painted murals and having the cheerleaders wear green!

Ranga Day was launched by staff and students at Taroona High School and is now becoming a global action event, where schools and students around the world can participate by wearing red and hosting a variety of activities! The Eco-Warriors have recently returned to Borneo to finish their 100 days carrying out projects to help stop deforestation and save the communities and wildlife dependent on the forests! Dr. Willie Smits posted photos of the Eco-Warriors and project crew cleaning up at the Sintang Orangutan Center after a recent storm destroyed many trees in the Sintang area.

What is DeforestAction?

DeforestACTION is a global movement taking action on deforestation in West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo. The project is focused on creating environmental and economic alternatives to deforestation in partnership with local communities.

The project is centred around the Dayak village of Tembak, a unique local community wanting to showcase successful orang-utan rehabilitation, eco-tourism and reforestation.

To achieve these goals, 11 Eco-Warriors from around the globe are working in partnership with the Kobus Foundation, Dr Willie Smits, Canopy Indonesia and the local people in West Kalimantan.

Why DeforestAction?

Humans are destroying the world’s forests at an alarming rate, and we are running out of time to save what's left.

As these forests disappear we lose the critical ecosystem goods and services (like food, water, shelter, medicine, and fuel) they provide, the many thousands of species that call forests home, as well as their cultural and recreational value. And, we speed up climate change.
DeforestACTION is your chance to take meaningful action to prevent further damage and to preserve your planet for future generations.

5 Components of DFA

The five main components of DeforestACTION are:

Providing the best 21st Century Learning experiences for young people and teachers
Rebuilding destroyed rainforest ecosystems and providing new opportunities for local landholders
Rescuing wildlife including orangutans and creating safe, secure conditions to help them prosper
Reducing illegal deforestation through transparency and distribution of information
Creating global awareness and spreading this important message to the broadest possible audience.

Each of these project components will be implemented and managed in partnership with local people in Indonesia and around the world.
