Lila Elmessiry's Action Hub

"Be the change you want to see in the world." - Mahatma Ghandi

Welcome to my Action Hub everybody! Here you will be able to see my progress in trying to follow the above quote to help save our planet. I am so appreciative to everyone who supported me and helped me reach the top 50 finalists - I am on the brink of realizing my dream! If I am chosen as one of the ten action agents, I will spend 100 days in Borneo where I will help restore the rainforest, save the orangutans from habitat destruction, and provide a sustainable livelihood for the local community. I would also be part of a 3D action movie that will raise awareness about the dangers of deforestation and hopefully inspire people around the world to take action. This project is led by acclaimed conservationist Dr. Willie Smits and Orangutan Outreach - you can learn more about the approach in Dr. Willie's TED Talk. In the next week the top 20 will be announced and the final 10 action agents at the end of May. In the meantime, I will keep you updated here on local community projects I am working on in Cairo that aim to inform people about deforestation and its effects as well as raise funds to buy back land and restore the rainforest in Borneo.

IT'S TIME TO TAKE SOME DEFORESTACTION! =)

Will you support my passion for DeforestAction? If I can recruit 500 supporters and raise $5,000 through my network, I'll be invited to visit Borneo to be part of the project!

Please feel free to donate below to sponsor land to be redeveloped as part of this project, and join my network of supporters through a quick web site signup (bottom right).

Thanks to everyone once again!

- Lila Elmessiry

How You Can Help!

You can help by joining my DeforestAction Network and by donating to support the project! As an applicant to the 3D Movie project, I have a special opportunity: I need to recruit 500 supporters and help raise $5,000 to earn an opportunity to visit Borneo and be part of the DeforestAction project in person! You can keep track of my progress below:

What is DeforestAction?

Youth across the planet have united to create DeforestAction - a global collaborative project to halt the destruction of rainforests, create a permanent home for orang-utans, and save the planet. From schools, homes and communities across the world, this project is one of the most important of our time, driven by youth for the future of the world.

The forests of the world are disappearing fast. If we don't do something soon, they will all be destroyed, taking away the habitat of orangutans and other wildlife. In Indonesia alone, a forest the size of 300 football fields is being cut down every hour - to make way for palm oil plantations.

The funding will be used to secure and sustain the land in partnership with the local community for 99 years, the length of the land use agreement.

Ten dollars ($10)
