Hello everybody! My name is Steve, I'm 25 years old and I'm from the USA. Working to protect Earth's most treasured ecosystems and to advocate for the rights of Indigenous communities are causes that have defined my life. I believe wholeheartedly that with the great ingenuinty and intellect of the human race, meeting the demands of the 21st century need not come at the expense of the most biodiverse habitats and vulnerable populations.
My most current and exciting venture in raising awareness and working to provide sustainable and profitable livelihood alternatives that balance people's needs, the environment and the economy in biodiverse regions is DeforestAction: Project Borneo 3D. With this groundbreaking project, I have the opportunity to join young leaders and visionaries from across the globe to be part of a 3D, real-life Action Movie in the dense jungles of Borneo. The project is led by acclaimed conservationist Dr. Willie Smits and Orangutan Outreach (learn more about their innovative conservation-development approach in Willie's TED Talk). Using a blend of science, community engagement, legal advocacy and good old-fashioned elbow grease, the project seeks to help save rainforests and endangered orangutans in measurable ways, to create awareness about deforestation, and importantly, to provide a sustainable livelihood for local communities.
I am on a quest to raise $5,000 to help secure and preserve critical land for this project. With the generosity of individuals like you, I have already raised $1,000 in just a few short days. Please, will you donate below to sponsor land to be redeveloped as part of this project? All donations will support the reforestation and protection of a new area of degraded rainforest Willie Smits has secured from the Bupati of Sintang, West Kalimantan for DeforestAction. The funding will be used to secure and sustain the land in partnership with the local community for 99 years, the length of the land use agreement. You'll receive a certificate with the coordinates of the land you're preserving, which will benefit local people and endangered orangutans alike.
How You Can Help!
You can help by joining my DeforestAction Network and by donating to support the project! As an applicant to the 3D Movie project, I have a special opportunity: I need to recruit 500 supporters and help raise $5,000 to earn an opportunity to visit Borneo and be part of the DeforestAction project in person! You can keep track of my progress below:
What is DeforestAction?
Youth across the planet have united to create DeforestAction - a global collaborative project to halt the destruction of rainforests, create a permanent home for orang-utans, and save the planet. From schools, homes and communities across the world, this project is one of the most important of our time, driven by youth for the future of the world.
The forests of the world are disappearing fast. If we don't do something soon, they will all be destroyed, taking away the habitat of orangutans and other wildlife. In Indonesia alone, a forest the size of 300 football fields is being cut down every hour - to make way for palm oil plantations.
