I entered the DeforestAction: Project Borneo 3D contest to have a chance to spend 100 days in Borneo. helping to save endangered rainforest and orangutans, create awareness about deforestation, and provide a sustainable livelihood for the local community. The project is led by conservationist Dr. Willie Smits and Orangutan Outreach - you can learn more about the approach in Willie's TED Talk.
I have been working in Borneo for the last 2 months, in a community based conservation program. working with an NGO Hutan, who run the Kinabatangan Orangutan Conservation Project. to find out more about their work follow this link - http://www.hutan.org.my/Home/Home.html
I am From Australia and work for a world leading Zoo Based Conservation Organization, Zoos Victoria. We work with many conservation partners around the world and this is how i originally made the connection with Hutan as they are one of our conservation partners. this is the second time i have visited the project in the last 12 months having spent all up nearly 4 months in the Village of Sukau. working with their different units
ECU - Elephants conservation Unit
OURS - Orang Utan Research Unit
HWW - Honorary Wild Life Wardens
HEAP - Hutan Environmental Awareness Program
The Reforestation Unit

Its a massive ask i know, but if you have the means to help its a worthy cause if i can get 500 supporters and raise $5,000 through my network to buy back 2,500 square meters of land in Borneo. Just $10 dollars goes along way.
You can donate below to sponsor land to be redeveloped as part of this project, and join my network of supporters through a quick web site signup.michael mcmanus is a Top 50 Finalist!
How You Can Help!
You can help by joining my DeforestAction Network and by donating to support the project! As an applicant to the 3D Movie project, I have a special opportunity: I need to recruit 500 supporters and help raise $5,000 to earn an opportunity to visit Borneo and be part of the DeforestAction project in person! You can keep track of my progress below:
What is DeforestAction?
Youth across the planet have united to create DeforestAction - a global collaborative project to halt the destruction of rainforests, create a permanent home for orang-utans, and save the planet. From schools, homes and communities across the world, this project is one of the most important of our time, driven by youth for the future of the world.
The forests of the world are disappearing fast. If we don't do something soon, they will all be destroyed, taking away the habitat of orangutans and other wildlife. In Indonesia alone, a forest the size of 300 football fields is being cut down every hour - to make way for palm oil plantations.
